The Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, Engineer Omar Suleiman has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to peaceful, issue-based politics, respect for the rule of law and the pursuit of practical solutions to the developmental challenges confronting the State.
Engr. Suleiman also saluted the leadership of the party, particularly its Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman, Senator David Mark, Adamawa State Chairman, Barrister Sadiq Dasin, and other party leaders whose commitment continues to strengthen the ADC’s growing popularity across the country.
Speaking through Elder Mark Wosi in a statement titled “I Come in Peace”, he expressed profound appreciation to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), support groups, volunteers and the people of Adamawa State for their continued confidence and overwhelming support for our vision of “Adamawa That Works – For Today, For Tomorrow”.
Popularly called Omarana, Suleiman reiterated that his campaign team remains committed to protecting public infrastructure and upholding the rule of law.
Reacting to the recent court judgment concerning the unauthorised pasting of campaign posters on public structures, he said his campaign accepted the decision of the court out of respect for lawful institutions and democratic accountability.
He maintained that while he neither authorised nor encouraged the unlawful acts, compliance with the court’s decision demonstrates responsible leadership and a commitment to lawful conduct.
According to him, any member of his campaign team found to have acted contrary to campaign directives has learnt an important lesson that discipline, respect for public property and obedience to the law remain non-negotiable values of the Omarana Movement.
The ADC governorship candidate observed that the legal action originated from the Ministry responsible for environmental protection and described the development as an opportunity to broaden public discourse on environmental governance.
According to him, while campaign posters placed on public structures deserve regulatory attention, environmental protection should equally focus on more pressing challenges affecting the daily lives of Adamawa citizens.
He noted that large refuse dumps, blocked drainage systems, indiscriminate waste disposal and poor sanitation continue to pose significant environmental and public health concerns across several communities in Yola and other parts of the state.
“Our campaign believes that environmental protection cannot begin and end with campaign posters. If we are genuinely committed to protecting our environment, then we must also confront the growing mountains of refuse, poor sanitation and environmental degradation that directly threaten the health and dignity of our people.
“This is not an attempt to diminish the importance of protecting public property. Rather, it is a call for environmental priorities that reflect the everyday realities confronting ordinary citizens”.
Omarana disclosed that environmental renewal and modern waste management would form a major pillar of his administration if elected.
He said communities such as Jambutu, Bye-Pass, Vunoklang and several others deserve modern waste management systems capable of transforming refuse into economic opportunities through recycling, waste-to-energy initiatives, organic fertiliser production and circular economy investments.
He therefore advised that, “no political ambition is worth the blood of any Adamawa citizen, saying, “Let us disagree without hatred, compete without violence and demonstrate that our democracy is mature enough to accommodate differing political opinions”.
