Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commended the quality, experience and capacity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates contesting the 2027 elections in Bayelsa East Senatorial District.
Jonathan spoke at the weekend in Yenagoa when he received a high-powered APC delegation at his residence in Yenagoa, led by former Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd.); Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku; and the Bayelsa State APC Chairman, Rt. Hon. Warman Weri Ogoriba, PhD.
Jonathan expressed appreciation for the quality of the candidates, saying virtually all of them were people he believed could be trusted based on their capacity, performance and experience.
He offered his blessings to the candidates and urged them to remain committed to serving their constituents if elected.
The former president also advised the candidates to regard politics as an avenue for improving society and attracting meaningful development to their constituencies.
He called on the candidates and other political stakeholders to sustain peace, unity and togetherness in Bayelsa State, stressing the importance of these values to the state’s continued development.
Presenting the candidates earlier, Jonah appealed to Jonathan to extend his goodwill and support to them, describing them as individuals with the capacity, experience and character required to provide effective representation.
He expressed confidence that the candidates would serve the interests of their constituents and contribute to the development of the senatorial district and Bayelsa State if elected.
The delegation visited the former president to formally present the party’s candidates to him as a mark of respect and recognition of his status as a former president and prominent leader from Bayelsa East.
The meeting brought together APC leaders, candidates, traditional rulers, youth representatives and other stakeholders from Brass, Nembe and Ogbia Local Government Areas as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Those presented included HRH Hon. Israel Sunny-Goli, who is contesting the Bayelsa East Senatorial seat; Hon. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, PhD, for the Brass/Nembe Federal Constituency; and Barr. Jude Amidator Rex-Ogbuku for the Ogbia Federal Constituency.
Also presented were the APC candidates for the Bayelsa State House of Assembly: Hon. Oteigbanyo George Braah (Nembe Constituency 1), Hon. Edward Brigidi Irigha (Nembe Constituency 2), Hon. Alalibo West (Nembe Constituency 3), Hon. Daniel Charles (Brass Constituency 1), Hon. Timi Agala (Brass Constituency 2) and Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere (Brass Constituency 3).
Others were Hon. High Chief Ebiango Okoba Egain (Ogbia Constituency 1), Hon. Godknows Obein (Ogbia Constituency 2) and Hon. Chief Gabriel Michael Ogbara (Ogbia Constituency 3).
