The Management of Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited (EEDL), a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), has assured Ebonyi subscribers of efficient service delivery as the company joined other organisations across the globe to celebrate Customer Service Week 2026.
The customer week, which had the theme, “The Extra Mile”, was held at the EEDC office, opposite Nigeria Correctional Centre, Abakaliki, the capital city.
Speaking with journalists at the event, the Managing Director of EEDL, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, said the event marked the official kick-off of the 2026 customer service week, a globally recognised service week dedicated to appreciating and celebrating both external and internal customers.
Nwosu explained that external customers were those to whom the organisation supplies electricity, in addition to those who approach the organisation with various concerns relating to their electricity supply.
“I assure customers of EEDL’s commitment to improved service delivery; the company will continue to work towards providing stable and reliable electricity supply”
He added that internal customers were the staff who work tirelessly to ensure that effective and quality service delivery to external customers becomes a reality.
According to him, “the customer service week provides an opportunity to recognise and appreciate both internal and external customers.”
He explained that outstanding staff would be recognized nda rewarded while those facing challenges would be encouraged to improve.
“For external customers, the organisation would engage directly with them, identify their concerns and work towards resolving issues, particularly those relating to billing and network challenges.”
The Managing Director expressed concern over the incessant harassment faced by staff in the course of discharging their duties and appealed to employees to exercise caution that may result in avoiding any form of confrontation or altercation with customers.
Nwosu further appealed to customers to refrain from assaulting, threatening or holding staff hostage, stressing that disagreements and complaints should be addressed through peaceful and established channels of communication.
“We want to make sure we have a state where every customer is happy, though we can’t satisfy everybody, at least let’s make that impact. If we have 95 to 98% of our customers happy, I think we’re getting somewhere,” he reiterated.
“Our dream is to have a company where the customers appreciate what we do, and they’re happy with our services, both the supply and the relationship management; everything is what we’re going to talk about today.”
He urged host communities to remain vigilant and help protect electricity facilities in their areas, noting that the company cannot independently secure all its substations.
In a remark, the Chief Commercial Officer of the company, Mr Cyprian Nwankwegu, described the relationship between the management/staff of the electricity company and its external customers as cordial.
“Empirical evidence of the cordial relationship existing between us and our customers is shown in the reduction of complaints and protests witnessed previously.”
Nwankwegu emphasised that the implementation of the on-the-spot bill reconciliation exercise, which started at the commencement of this cycle, has effectively enhanced the relationship with the customers.
“The customers can now attest to the transparency and very fair billing system.”
He restated that EEDl would be going the extra mile to serve its customers through another On-the-Spot Complaints Resolution Exercise, scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2026, as part of activities marking the customers’ service week.
