The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives,
Thankgod Christopher Ibeh, has promised monthly financial support for elderly residents and expanded employment opportunities for youths if elected.
Ibeh made the pledges on Friday at a town hall meeting with constituents in Amuwo Odofin.
He said his decision to contest the election was driven by a desire to give back to the people and provide effective representation at the National Assembly.
“I stand before you today to present myself and introduce my plans for you as I vie for the House of Representatives,” he said.
Ibeh recalled that he contested the APGA governorship ticket in Anambra State in 2021 alongside Governor Chukwuma Soludo and had previously contested for the House of Representatives.
He said his experience in politics had strengthened his resolve to serve the people of Amuwo Odofin.
The APGA candidate urged residents to protect their votes during the election, saying his campaign promises would serve as a bond between him and the constituents.
“I promise that if you are 70 years and above in this constituency, you will be on my payroll monthly through my foundation, payable before the 30th of every month,” he said.
On youth empowerment, Ibeh promised to introduce a “One Youth-Two Skills” programme aimed at equipping young people with practical skills and improving their employment prospects.
“I will teach the youths how to fish and empower them with a plan for ‘One youth-two skills’. It is not rocket science to change the community. I will sponsor laws that will empower the people here,” he said.
He also promised to pursue employment opportunities through partnerships with Federal Government ministries, departments and agencies, private-sector organisations and development partners.
“Youth unemployment remains one of the greatest challenges facing our constituency,” Ibeh said, adding that his administration would “aggressively pursue employment opportunities” if elected.
On infrastructure, the candidate pledged to facilitate the construction and rehabilitation of strategic roads, improve drainage systems and tackle flooding across the constituency.
He also promised to strengthen healthcare by upgrading primary healthcare centres, facilitating the provision of modern medical equipment, supporting medical outreaches and improving maternal and child healthcare services.
In agriculture, Ibeh said he would support the training and empowerment of farmers involved in fisheries, livestock, poultry, crop production and agro-processing.
He further pledged to support the renovation of dilapidated schools, digitalisation of school libraries, provision of ICT facilities and teacher capacity development.
According to him, scholarship and bursary schemes would also be supported, alongside programmes for people living with disabilities, elderly residents, small and medium-sized enterprises and vocational skills development.
Ibeh challenged constituents to hold him accountable for the promises made during the campaign, saying he would accept responsibility for his performance if elected.
“If I go to Abuja to represent you and you score me 5/10, show me the way out. Because all I target is to represent you with a scorecard of 10/10,” he said.
“My scorecard will speak for me because I honestly want to give back to my people who have shown love to me. I must make sure that I give you the best.”
He also promised to “bring light in Amuwo Odofin”, saying residents had endured enough challenges and that the impact of his representation would be visible.
Speaking with journalists, the Director General of the TKC Campaign Organisation, Comrade Ololade Johnson, expressed confidence in Ibeh’s candidacy, saying his election would bring significant changes to the constituency.
